A. Due to the various ways people can display our items, as well as the additional costs that would be incurred to ship long ground stakes, we do not provide them. We have found suitable metal rods at most hardware and home improvement stores for reasonable prices.
Q. Will your designs change color over time?
A. Copper will oxidize over time. This is a natural reaction to exposure to the elements. Most people believe, as we do, that the patina developed over time adds beauty to most copper artwork. Some folks, in fact, even use a chemical mixture to speed up the oxidation process. We occasionally use a chemical mixture to "force" a patina. We also occasionally use heat to change the coloration of the copper. Unless clear coated, forced coloration will continue to change over time.
Q. I don't like the angle of the flower on the piece I ordered. Can I adjust it?
A. As a general rule, we do not recommend rebending. Most flowers are mounted on 1/4" tubing that can be gently bent, using care not to put a crease in it. If it is absolutely necessary to rebend, use special care to put pressure only on the stem, and not on the solder that attaches the flower. No rebending should be attempted on the Flower and Caterpillar in the area where the caterpillar is attached, as this can cause the solders to pop. Flowers mounted on copper rod can be gently bent to change the look. Copper rod can be re-straightened with gentle hammer taps.
Q. Can I buy your designs in any retail stores?
A. We do not maintain a retail store, nor are our designs regularly sold at commercial retail outlets. See our home page for current local retail availability. We are a small company with limited production due to the handcrafting of all designs. We value the close relationships we build with our customers by staying small, and have no plans to add bricks and mortar at this time.
Q. Are your designs copyrighted?
A. All original works of visual arts are afforded copyright protection under United Sates laws. We do not allow reproduction of our designs. Should you find a reproduction of one of our designs, please contact us.
Q. We loved the pictures in the tour of your garden. Do you ever do presentations for clubs, etc.?
A. We have developed a presentation that features our garden and Copper Garden Design artwork. This presentation is titled "A Layman's Guide to Developing a Landscape." It is designed to encourage people to undertake landscaping projects. If you belong to a garden club, neighborhood organization, or other interested organization in the Central Iowa area, and would like us to do a presentation for your group, e-mail or phone Ann.
